British Art prizes

While film and media awards are often talked about in the media, only rarely visual art prizes are mentioned. Nevertheless, there are multiple different prizes for all sorts of visual art out there. Since 1984, the Turner prize has been awarded to famous names like Grayson Perry or Wolfgang Tillmans. The Hepworth prize, on the other hand, has only fairly recently been established and is awarded to artists creating outstanding sculptures. Whoever receives one of these prizes does not only gain popularity in the arts world, but also a lot of money. 40.000 Pounds are given to the winner of the Artes Mundi award. In order to receive any of these award you don’t already have to be famous – apply for the New Contemporaries prize which picks out uprising young artists who want to make a name in the art scene.
