Sex and relationships education obligatory for ALL schools

Since year 2000, most schools have held classes for sex and relationships education (SRE). However, privat schools and academies do not have to deliver these classes, since they are also not obliged to follow the National Curriculum. 2 days ago the government decided that from now on all schools have to teach SRE. The possibility, of taking their children out of this lesson remains for parents. In practice, most schools teach the subject, since especially in the digital age the danger of sexting and cyber mobbing are relevant for a healthy growing up. The new regulations sees children from the age of 4 receiving SRE. Of course, the lessons will strongly depend on the children’s age and will always be appropriate. Especially for teenagers the lessons will focus more on sex and related subjects.
