Too much fast food for children in Ilford

At an Ilford Voices Matter meeting, residents voiced their concerns about the rapidly increasing number of fast food shops in Ilford. They highlight that these shops do not only make their children eat more unhealthily but they also destroy the picturesque area. Further, the shops contribute tremendously to the waste found in the streets. The residents stress that in earlier years people from other parts of London would come to Ilford to see the nice family businesses. Now this homely, nice-looking area has vanished and been replaced by similar looking fast food shops. One of the suggestions made, is that the shops should be at least 500 meters from schools. Obesity is a common problem in the UK and often starts when children are still in school. Redbridge Council has not promised to take any action or lie restrictions on the founding of more fast food shops in Ilford.
