More focus on STEM subjects

While the world of education is often urged to include more art subjects, engineers now call for more teaching of problem solving skills. It is not a secret that the UK is short in engineers at the moment. One of the reasons for this is found in the lack of teaching of problem solving skills. Thus, pilot projects aimed at involving students more into open question thinking and developing new ideas on the basis of trial and error. Students reported back that at first they found it difficult to start over in case their project turned out not to be working. On the other hand side, teachers reflect on the project by highlighting that they were first struggling to not intervene when they saw a child was creating a mistake. Only this way it was possible for the child to learn from their mistakes and for the teachers to learn from the pupils’ creativity.
