Ash to Art – Burnt parts of Glasgow School of Arts revived

In 2014 the Glasgow School of Arts library burnt down. “Ash to Art” is a project aiming at raising money for the renovation of the Mackintosh library. Multiple famous artists, amongst which are Sir Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor and Simon Starling, were sent burnt parts from the library which they were instructed to use to create new art pieces. 32 Million pounds are needed to rebuild the library. Grayson Perry, who has created an urn says: “The idea of memorialising or celebrating the difficulty – honouring the wound. It’s something I’m trying to do. Move on and make the most of it.” The project is aimed at creating something completely new from a place of huge importance in the creative community.
